Aureus' Stars Shine Brightly at Cornerstone

After having to postpone their show in December due to the pandemic, our talented Aureus students’ were finally able to astound us with their multi-faceted show at The Cornerstone Arts Centre, here in Didcot. We were all invited to experience, what can only be described as, ‘stand out’ performances, from not only our dance & music students, but also our GCSE drama students too.

Our Assistant Head Teacher, Mr Morris was incredibly proud of their achievements. “After a couple of challenging years with COVID it was so nice to see Aureus pupils being able to perform again at Didcot Cornerstone. I was amazed to see such talent being displayed through the dance choreography, singing and acting. The pupils were absolutely buzzing backstage and showed true professionalism. As Assistant Headteacher, I was so proud of the resilience that everyone has shown in getting this performance to the stage after it was cancelled in December. The staff and pupils have done Aureus proud!”

Miss King, our Head of Creative and Expressive arts, worked tirelessly to put the show together and it was evident that this had been a true labour of love. With such a varied variety and large amount of performers; 4 actors from year 11, 83 dancers from year groups 7-11 and solo singers from years 9 – 11. There was a wide variety of music and dance on the night. Song choices from the current and popular Ed Sheeran, Anne Marie and Billie Eilish to the more old school choices from Michael Buble and Britney Spears. There were solo performances by both dancers and vocalists, duets and big ensemble pieces, all of who truly shined on stage. In addition, our GCSE drama students explored the world of Simon Stephens’ private school, where a group of sixth formers get ready to take their A level exams, in his British play ‘Punk Rock’.

It was an ambitious feat for Miss King to take on, but her and her students triumphed! “The show was a huge success! The school's first ever Creative and Expressive Arts event and the pupils were simply amazing; they put on a great show! We would like to thank both ‘Step In Time’ Dance School and The Cornerstone Arts Centre for their support. Now we are in full swing with preparations for this year’s production of ‘The Greatest Showman’ which comes to our stage on the 17&18th March’ 2022”
