Teaching & Learning

Teaching and Learning at Aureus School is thought provoking, knowledge rich and engaging.

We focus on the holistic learning experience of our school community so that all students are able to progress and develop the key prerequisites needed to go on to further education, employment or training.

We provide a safe and stimulating learning environment in order to help students grow, learn and flourish. They in turn will be expected to fulfil their roles and responsibilities in order to receive an effective learning experience.

Teaching and Learning at Aureus School involves:

  • Challenging, probing questions
  • Low stakes, high frequency testing/checking
  • A mixture of concrete and abstract learning
  • Assessment to boost retention
  • Independent learning
  • Critical thinking

Students at Aureus School are involved in their learning journeys in order to provide a regular insight into their experience of learning. They are praised for their effort and commitment to their work and benefit from communication between their teachers and parents and carers at fixed points in the year.

Teachers enrol on a continual learning journey to keep up to date with evidence informed practices while maintaining the need to be innovative and creative in their classrooms. Staff know their students, their needs and their areas for development.

All teachers are responsible for SEND and literacy provision in their subject areas. They deliver highly effective quality first teaching which revolves around high expectations, knowing level of needs, language awareness and feedback.

Teachers ensure that our students have a high level of deep subject knowledge and continue to ensure they develop their own knowledge through regular and relevant professional learning.
