Aureus joins the Holocaust Education Programme
We are delighted to inform you that Aureus School has been accepted onto the prestigious University College London Beacon School in Holocaust Education Programme for 2020/21. Mrs Haycock began the programme during lockdown with 19 other schools selected to participate. The aim of the programme is to improve the quality of teaching and learning about the Holocaust that students experience during their time at school and to create a platform to disseminate research and inculcate a culture of sharing best practice with other schools within a network to benefit students from a wider reach.
Mrs Haycock will be working with 15 other teachers across the curriculum at Aureus to ensure that our students have a rich understanding of the importance of this historical event. We will address the 6 common misconceptions young people have about the Holocaust through Humanities lessons as well as English, Drama and Art. We feel this programme builds on our Global Citizenship curriculum as we seek to educate the next generation in the realities of how and why the Holocaust happened. There will be a parent event scheduled later in the year for you to find out more.
