The Great Aureus Spelling Bee
On Tuesday this week we were excited to hold our first Aureus Spelling Bee!
Twenty one students from across each year group competed in knockout rounds where they had to spell a selection of words from their spelling lists on mini whiteboards. Some of the words chosen were sector, constitutional, interpretation, legislation, significant, alongside some more academic words (exothermic, phalanges).
An overall winner from each year group emerged as victorious:
Year 7 - Leigh
Year 8 - Edie
Year 9 - Michael
There were also team rounds, where the students competed together for their faculty.
Finally, a staff round was held with Ms Carnaby representing Hawking, Ms Pearce representing Malala and Ms Hunter representing Banksy.
The overall winners were Malala with 33 points, with Banksy in second place with 27 points, and finally, Hawking with 15.
Mrs Murcutt said: “The Spelling Bee was a privilege to be a part of. I was very impressed with students’ enthusiasm, concentration, and sportsmanship. Well done to our year group winners, and congratulations to Malala Faculty!”
