Millie Shines on Stage!

Treading the boards of a professional theatre was a great opportunity for one of our pupils who had a role in the recent production of Annie.

With four months of weekly rehearsals behind her, Millie said she found the later nights challenging, but the adrenaline on the closing night of the run was ‘beyond amazing’.

“My favourite part was being able to sing, dance and act with other actors who had the same interest as me,” she said.

“It was extremely exciting to have the chance to perform on stage, especially as it was in more of a professional venue.”

Millie was praised for her hard work and dedication.

Amy King (Head of Dance) said: “Millie’s enthusiasm, talent, and commitment to the performing arts are an inspiration.”

A member of the Rare Productions company, Millie was in the show which was staged at Newbury Corn Exchange earlier this month, and already has her sights set on another show as she has a role in the production of Aladdin.

“The role has been less challenging mentally, as in Annie, I knew no one and I now know many people in Aladdin,” she said.

The young performer has advice to other students with a similar passion: “Just do it! I find when you stop caring about what others think, nothing else really matters as long as you enjoy what you’re doing.”

Her proud parents said Millie is always reading scripts, listening to show songs and ‘even in Sainsbury’s I can see her feet are going over dance routines, the girl can’t stand still,’ they said.

“Seeing Millie on stage, shining and just so happy doing what she loves most is the best feeling.

“We keep a close eye on her homework and make sure that’s completed before she can do any extra. Also we make sure she’s eating healthily for all the energy she’s using, along with prompt bedtimes!”
