Brilliant Students Graduate with Brilliant Results!
The Brilliant Club works with schools and universities across the UK. They mobilise the PhD community to support students who are less advantaged to access the most competitive universities and succeed when they get there.
Since October 2021, 12 PP and/or MA students (Or students who have not had a parent go to university or live in an economically deprived area) have been involved in The Scholars Programme, which has involved our students working closely with a PhD Tutor, who is either studying to gain a PhD or already has one. They have studied a series of small group university-style tutorials on a ‘super-curricular’ course which explores topics they may not usually study in the school curriculum. Many of these researchers currently act as lecturers to students at university level, so it has been a unique opportunity for students to experience university-style teaching. Pupils have worked towards final assignments that have challenged them to work above their current key stage.
10 out of the 12 students have achieved significantly above their Key Stage expectations. Which is amazing! More than half the students are at a 2:1 and 4 of them achieved a First! The students will be travelling with Mr Ali, our Raising Standards Lead, to Keble College, Oxford University for their Graduation ceremony on 18th of May.
