GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Knowledge Organisers

Knowledge organisers are given to students to encourage independent study and revision to support learning. Each subject provides an overview of the content for their subject and it is collated in a booklet for your reference. Students are provided with paper copies.

How to use the Knowledge Organisers

A Knowledge organiser captures all the essential information about topics studied in any given subject. The Knowledge Organiser allows you to see, at a glance, what fundamental knowledge you need to succeed in lessons, assessments and examinations.

Some advice for using this booklet effectively:

  1. As you go through lessons, check what you are learning against your KPIs and the knowledge organiser for your subjects.  It will help you to understand what is being taught and what you have to learn for long term success.
  2. Keep a printed copy of your Knowledge Organisers at home so that you can study independently.
  3. Create a timetable of revision/independent study - how much can you cover in a week?
  4. Choose a subject to focus on, read the Knowledge Organiser, use online resources to extend your learning.
  5. Create flashcards for keywords, with definitions.
  6. Highlight parts of the Knowledge Organiser where you are not clear on how to do something or what it means.  Ask your teacher to go over it again.
  7. Tick off content that you know, can explain and write answers about.
  8. Ask your family to test you on the content of each topic
  9. Make revision notes, posters and diagrams to support your learning using the information on the Knowledge Organisers.
  10. Look up practice questions on line relating to the content you have studied each term and answer them!

Some advice on how to study at home:

  1. Plan out when you are going to study and which topics you going to cover.
  2. Avoid distractions - put away your phone for a set amount of time.  Reward yourself every 40 mins with a quick glance!
  3. Find somewhere quiet to work.
  4. Have a set of different coloured pens/highlighters and some spare paper, flashcards and a notepad.
  5. Give yourself a set amount of time to work and take regular short breaks.

Please note that due to Covid, our Knowledge Organisers are currently being reviewed and are in the process of being updated.
