GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Year 7

In Year 7, students will build upon and embed the physical development and skills learned in key stages 1 and 2, to become more competent, confident and apply them across different sports and physical activities. Students should understand what makes a performance effective and how to apply these principles to their own and others’ work. They should develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise and sporting activities out of school and in later life, and understand and apply the long-term health benefits of physical activity.  Students will experience different activities covering a variety of the following: Multi-Skills, Rugby, Football, Desk-to-5k, Athletics and Rounders. In addition to this, students will also have the opportunity to take part in PDT after school clubs where they can gain experience of a variety of extra sports. This allows students to build their confidence within the subject and make an informed decision when choosing their options at the end of year eight.

Year 7 Curriculum Overview - PE

Year 8

In Year 8, students will develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are partaking, they think about what they are doing, analyse the situation and make decisions. They reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve them. As a result, they develop the confidence to take part in different physical activities and learn about the value of healthy, active lifestyles. Discovering what they like to do, what their aptitudes are at school, and how and where to get involved in physical activity helps them make informed choices about lifelong physical activity. In Year 8 more emphasis is placed on students to take different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating.

Year 9

In Year 9, students will continue to develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are partaking, they think about what they are doing, analyse the situation and make decisions. They reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve them. As a result, they develop the confidence to take part in different physical activities and learn about the value of healthy, active lifestyles. Discovering what they like to do, what their aptitudes are at school, and how and where to get involved in physical activity helps them make informed choices about lifelong physical activity. In Year 9 more emphasis is placed on students to leading parts of the lesson to build on their leadership and communication skills.
All students will have the chance to opt into the foundation PE during their core PE lessons. This will introduce the students to GCSE level content for both GCSE PE and Cambridge Nationals Sport Studies.

Year 10

In Year 10, students will continue to develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are partaking, they think about what they are doing, analyse the situation and make decisions based on their analysis. They reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve them. As a result, they develop the confidence to take part in different physical activities and learn about the value of healthy, active lifestyles. Discovering what they like to do and how and where to get involved in physical activity helps them make informed choices about lifelong physical activity. In Year 10 more emphasis is placed on students to leading large parts of the lesson to build on their leadership and communication skills.

Year 11

In Year 11, students will continue to develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. As all year 11 students are on PE at the same time we are giving the students a chance to select the sport they take part in each term. Having a choice of sport will encourage students to think about which activities they would like to continue to play/ perform to lead healthy, active lifestyle when they finish year 11. The lessons will be game based with focus put on tactics and selected skills linked to the tactics.

GCSE PE

Year 10 GCSE PE

In Year 10, students will look closely at how athletes test their fitness levels and how they would improve these fitness levels to get to their optimum performance levels for competition. Each pupil will need to start to think about what sport they will choose for their final assessment. Students will then develop knowledge and understanding of the psychological factors that can affect performers in physical activity and sport. All students will continue to develop their skills and knowledge in a team and individual sport to prepare them for their practical assessment. 

Year 10 Curriculum Overview - GCSE PE

Year 11 GCSE PE

In Year 11, students will complete their coursework and a practical moderation which is 40% of their final grade. The practical moderation will see the students complete different tasks which will be filmed for their two sports. The rest of the year will be used to go back over the content learnt in year 9 and year 10 which is needed for their 2 GCSE PE papers.
