Headteacher's Weekly Update

Dear Families,

What an incredible week it has been!

One of my highlights was our GCSE Drama performance. It was a fantastic piece of theatre, although I have to admit that when Humpty Dumpty fell off the ladder, I had a genuine moment of panic! I think that says everything about the quality of the performance. A huge well done to our students for such a memorable performance.

We were also incredibly fortunate to welcome Justice in Motion and experience CODE. This powerful production explores the exploitation of young people through County Lines and knife crime, using physical theatre, parkour, trials bike stunts, live rap and music. Inspired by true stories,  it was a striking reminder of how quickly situations can change for young people and why awareness, trusted adults and the conversations we have in school matter so much.

A huge thank you must also go to Mr Hayden for organising the Navy careers event for Year 9. Opportunities like this give our students a valuable insight into the enormous range of pathways available to them and encourage them to think ambitiously about their futures.

This week, I also had the privilege of visiting a primary school within GLF Schools as part of a peer review. It was wonderful to step into primary education and see first-hand the foundations that are laid long before students arrive with us in secondary school. It was a powerful reminder that education really is a journey, and that every phase plays such an important part in preparing young people for what comes next.

Finally, today has been our GLF INSET Day, with colleagues engaging in training focused on the Trust’s inclusion strategy. Bringing staff together to learn, share ideas and collaborate is enormously valuable. It is also one of the real strengths of belonging to a large Trust: we can learn not only from those within our own school, but from colleagues and expertise across the wider GLF community.

Thank you, as always, to our students and staff for making Aureus such a vibrant place to learn and work.

Ms Kirsty Rogers
